Please Don't Judas Me

Yeah that song has been looming large lately.

Man, I just watched the tail end of the Democrat Presidential Debate. I originally wrote up my .02 on the mindless dribble I saw. But I think I can sum it up by saying if there is one group of people on this planet that can actually make Republicans look like responsible level-headed reasonable people, its the Democrats. Goddamn we're fucked no matter what basically. Note- when a debate between potential leaders of the free world includes one candidate expounding on their encounters with aliens, you're fucked.

That said, I've been doing some tinkering with what next year's race season is going to look like, and this is what I'm coming up with:

June 22 - Des Moines Iowa -Hy Vee Triathlon

July 12 - Anchorage Alaska - Fireweed 400 (the 100 mile race)

July 20-26 - Iowa - Ragbrai 2008

August 2nd- Southern Michigan - Steelhead Half Ironman

First weekend of Sept - Chicago - Big Shoulders

I'm sure there will be some little running races and bike races along the way but those are the pinnacle events for me...the "must hits". I MAY go ahead and do Accenture here in Chicago since it's pretty fast and it'd be kind of fun to do the sprint (yeah I did a half ironman that month, anybody who says I'm a pussy for going short distance can just fuck right off). But we'll see how much all the fees come up to. Needless to say, Fireweed is going to be a somewhat costly undertaking. I've abandon hope on doing Furnace Creek because we don't have the credentials yet. I'm figuring Fireweed should get me there...plus graduating from Olympic distance to half Ironman distance should make me look like not-a-pussy.

I'm going to start training in earnest in January. In the meantime, its just business as usual...3 nights swim, 2 nights run and no weights (yet...sigh). Calorie intake hasn't really been an issue for me. I keep it around 2000, but when the weights come into play I'll probably get in the habit of taking in 3000 or so.

All this in the way of saying some of this shit is going to require some serious advance planning. And i'm not entirely sure how well Ragbrai is going to play against doing Steelhead that next week as that SHOULD be when I'm resting. Needless to say the week between the 27th and 02 will be a VERY low key week for me. I'm really going to have to curb the drinking this year on the ride...like this time actually mean it (I've threatened to do this the last 2 years). Usually after ragbrai I feel like a freight train ran over me for a good month.

So yeah...I need to be firing on all cylinders towards the end of July or i'm fucked.
